Thanks to Idaho Commission for Libraries (ICfL), a staff with no formal Library Science training can take courses for FREE!
ICfl has designed two Free Library Science Courses: ABLE and SABLE.
Alternative Basic Library Education (ABLE) – A program geared to help those who people who work in libraries but have no formal training in Library Science acquire basic skills in Collection Development, Technical Services and Public Services. Complete with Self-Evaluation Survey, a student can take the course online at his own time and pacing. Another good thing about the program is that you can pick the topic that interests you the most. Find out more through this link: http://libraries.idaho.gov/page/able
Supplemental Alternative Basic Library Education (SABLE) – Similar to ABLE, the program offers courses that will provide additional skills needed to work in libraries. Such courses are: Early Childhood Services, Services to School Aged Children and Young Adult (YA) Services.
Wait there’s more: ICfl is also giving special courses on Cataloging Music Sound Recordings and Intelibrary Loan. Interested? Visit this link: http://libraries.idaho.gov/page/sable
Both ABLE and SABLE provide a Certificate of Completion. You learn, you get a certificate! A plus to your credentials right?
